The whole thing smacks of astrology & numerology. Their empty symbols highlight their anti- remembrance....
they condemn christians for celebrating their own festivals at the same time of year pagans do, yet they do their ritual on someone else's holy day and change the meanings of days to suit their beliefs.
they just don't get it.

Memorial on full moon?
by Aphrodite intalked to jw mother in law about memorial, df'd hubby reckons it should be on full moon which was friday, but it was held on wednesday.
mother in law says "well as brother so&so pointed out to us, it is the full moon in the northern hemisphere, so we are only out by a few hours and anyone looking into the night sky would think its a full moon anyway.
so they are saying they are having the memorial on the northern hemispheres full moon, but they actually had it just after sundown here which was well before sundown up there so in fact they held the memorial on nisan 13. i just dont get it, is this normal, is it even true?

BETHEL NEWS: Response from the Blood Email Drive
by Elsewhere ina source within the watchtower society asked me to post this information regarding the blood email drive that happened in late february 2006. in the email was a news article written by richard n. ostling (included below).here is what the wts source asked me to post: looks like the blood email drive has the boys at bethel in a fit.
rumor has it that hundreds of calls where received at bethel from across the country because the sender was "gary broux" (a heavy in the service department).
concerned jws wanted to know if gary had gone apostate.

I like the footnotes at the end. I also think its time that regular people & regular christians hear that they don't celebrate the resurrection either!
not celebrating christmas with all its commercial trappings and staying away from easter because of bunnies and chocolate is one thing, but to not celebrate the resurrection is NON-christian. That is THE one thing that sets that particular religion from the others. Lots of prophets & profits come and go, are born and die - but not too many are believed in because they came back to life!

I agree with your comparisons. I found that (since I'm not a JW) that as soon as I educated myself with their "ways" and "beliefs" and started asking questions I have been treated same as a df'd one, which is same as anyone who knows the truth about the truth.
I remember reading about the blacks turning white - I think I have a photocopy of the original. I'll have a look. but I do remember thinking that maybe Michael Jackson was "perfecting" himself with his skin colour? Not sold in the medical reason for his skin colour I guess, he did too many other things to his face to change his ethinicity (is that the right word?)

I'm reminded of the article about women having smaller brains! and not being competent in leadership roles because they have to take a couple of days off EVERY MONTH, then a menstral description - similar to the women are like cows comment.

Remember, in the early days - everyone would eat the bread & drink the wine. Just like the bible said to do.
It was the new management of the WT who had to changed the invitation list. They were the ones who shut this symbolic door of everlasting life.
They made up the new destination, became leaders of another flock and lured the poor souls away.

I love your posts Metatron.
a jw once remarked to me something about the memorial, or the once a year thing, sorry can't remember exact context, but i remember saying that the mass celebrated by some, or the eucharist, - in response to Jesus' command - AS OFTEN as you do this remember me. Meaning they choose to remember the sacrifice EVERYDAY, not just once a week, or once a year.
there was an honest moment of ...that makes sense - remember everyday -... then he quickly shook his head & put the rose coloured glasses back on.

Just finished Crisis of Conscience (first time), now I understand why...

now i understand why my father, the co, the wts and every other elder who came to my home asked if i had read the book.. i had not.
however, the argumentation stylesup to and including the focus in my letters on the paired issues of candor and humilityas well as the bulk of the scriptures used by brother franz and others were present in my letters.. this shows their hubris to an even greater degree.

I was shook to the core while reading this book as well, and I am not a witness. The close family on my husband's side that I cherished are all but gone now.
Reading that book in my own house, was like I was wearing a garlic necklace carrying a crucifix held high in the air. I had no idea the nazi book burning mentality would be so quick to judge, where, before the intrusion of the "society" into our home our family enjoyed freedom, tolerance, charity, love, and an innocence that the watchtower magazines quickly stole away.
Makes you just want to hug some of them & not let them go until they believe that you love them and would never hurt them and reading a book does not make you their enemy.
I found that Franz's second book - "In search of Christian Freedom" is a must read, an execellent follow up. Its a way back to faith if thats what you're looking for.
